RAILEAN Distillery
The RAILEAN Eagle Point Distillery is the first and the only distillery located in the Houston/Galveston vacinity.
It is actually tucked away along the shores of Galveston Bay in a little coastal town called San Leon. The area was once a stronghold for the swashbuckling pirate Jean Lafitte, today San Leon is a "small drinking community with a large fishing problem". The area is also home to a thriving population of wild parrots called Monk Parakeets, or Quakers which, naturally became the mascot of RAILEAN.
Tour Description
You will meet Kelly Railean the Founder and Master Distiller. She will explain how she got into the distilling business and how to make RAILEAN Rum and Agave Spirits.
Included is a discussion on fermentation, distillation theory and operation of the still, dark versus white rum, spirits distilled from agave including a discussion on Tequila, barrel aging and the bottling process. Be warned this is a working distillery and the facility is not air conditioned. For individuals of legal drinking age, we offer ½ ounce servings of each type of RAILEAN spirit.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. I want to start-up my own distillery, will you allow me to tour your facility?
Tours are reserved for the general public to provide entertainment, education, and to promote our brand.
2. Why are tours by appointment only?
I am typically at the Distillery Monday – Saturday and try to accommodate everyone's schedule. However, there are instances where I am meeting with distributors or retail establishments. Furthermore, because this is a working distillery, there are days that are not suited for tours such as when I am cleaning equipment or accepting deliveries.
3. Do you charge for tours?
Yes, tours are currently $3 per person and $5 if you want to keep your shot glass.
4. How long is a tour?
Tours are typically 45 min. - 1 hour.
5. Do you accept credit cards?
We do not accept credit cards, cash or check only.
6. May I take pictures or video?
It is OK to take pictures but we do not allow video.
7. Do you have a gift shop?
We sell hats, T-shirts and shot glasses and other miscellaneous merchandise.
8. Do you have a restroom?
Yes
9. What if I am running late?
To be fair to others who have showed at the scheduled time, all tours will start on time. I will do my best to accommodate you but depending on how late you are running it might be best just to reschedule the tour.
