American Craft Spirits Reviews RAILEAN Small Cask Rum
Score: 95
Hazelnut, marzipan, orange, chocolate and vanilla bean on the nose – this is rich, desert-worthy rum, so don’t even think about cola, in fact, don’t even set the bottles next to one another in the fridge! On the palate, a warm and nutty earthiness develops, which carries the pot still sweetness directly to the finish. Creamy caramel and bourbon notes take a few minutes to develop, but once they do, you begin to get the whole picture of this rum. It’s complex, delicious, and beautifully rendered from beginning to end. Here is unspoiled island pleasure straight from the mainland.

TEXAS, August 30, 2010 – Railean Distillers, LLC has announced that they have created the First Texas Agave Spirit™ at their family owned and operated distillery in San Leon, Texas. The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax Trade Bureau (TTB) maintains that Tequila is a product of Mexico and therefore Tequila cannot be manufactured in the United States. Spirits produced in the U.S. from Agave Tequilana F.A.C. Weber, commonly called Blue Agave are considered Specialty Spirits and cannot be called Tequila. Companies wishing to leverage the Tequila designation are required to purchase bulk Tequila spirit from Mexico and then they are allowed to bottle and market them as Tequila (Product of Mexico) in the US under their brand name. According to Kelly Railean, “I have always been intrigued with small production handcrafted Tequila from Mexico and we have been experimenting with Agave Tequilana, the main ingredient in Tequila for some time now. Our Texas Blue Agave Spirit is the first spirit of its kind to be fermented and distilled in the State of Texas.” No word yet on what the new product may be called, but it will be The Original Texas Agave Spirit™.
