San Leon, "a small drinking community with a fishing problem".  In fact a significant portion of the local economy is based on the fishing industry.  San Leon is home to several large commercial fish, shrimp and oyster companies including Misho's Oyster Company and Prestige Oyster Company.  If you are a sport fishermen, check out the Eagle Point Fishing Camp and the San Leon Marina (currently being re-built after Hurricane Ike).  Both facilities provide easy access to Galveston and Trinity Bays as well as the Gulf of Mexico.

If you are interested in local cuisine, try Top Water Grill (try the bait shrimp), Gilhooley's (rated best oysters in Texas), or the Green Parrot Cafe (burgers & chicken fried steak).  For those looking for the best watering holes on Galveston Bay, you have found the right place.  Most local establishments including Top Water Grill, The Beach Pub Bar, Green Parrot Cafe and the Buccaneer Bar (when it re-opens) carry RAILEAN Rum.  For places such as Gilhooley's, Sunset Lounge, and Radio City that only serve wine and beer we suggest going to San Leon Liquor (located next to Wayno's) and purchasing a bottle of RAILEAN Rum.  These establishments do charge for set-ups but at a very reasonable price.

If you plan on visiting the local watering holes in San Leon we highly recommend a designated driver.  There are many great bars and restaurants in the area but please drink responsibly...

Directions to the Eagle Point Rum Distillery.

Kelly's Suggested Itinerary:

    1. Tour the Eagle Point Rum Distillery and taste 1/2 ounce of local RAILEAN Texas Rum
    2. Don't forget to purchase a shot glass, ball cap or T-Shirt from our gift shop (almost finished)
    3. Drive around Eagle Point, past the Prestige Oyster Company (corner of 1st St. and Avenue C) and visit the Beach Pub Bar (1st St.) for a RAILEAN Rum cocktail, head back towards town and turn right on 6th St. to see the re-construction of the San Leon Marina, and the Buccaneer Bar where we first conceived the idea to open a Rum Distillery.  Although Hurricane Ike destroyed the marina, the Monk Parakeets survived and are back in the original location of the Buccaneer Bar.
    4. Visit the San Leon Liquor Store and purchase a bottle of RAILEAN Rum.  If you are lucky, they may have some Small Cask Family Reserve (Single Barrel) rum still in stock.  Tell Pat and Butch we sent you...
    5. Lunch at Gilhooley's, we highly recommend the Gihooley's Oysters and Everybody’s Gumbo with a RAILEAN Rum and Lemonade set-up, alternatively, lunch at Top Water Grill, with their famous Bait Shrimp appetizer and an ice cold  RAILEAN Rum punch.
    6. Head over to the Green Parrot Cafe for a "Talk Like a Pirate" RAILEAN Rum drink and listen to live music on the patio.  If you haven't eaten try the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich.
    7. If it is a Friday night, stop by Noah's Ark (Bacliff) and party with the Galveston Bay Parrot Head Club with local trop-rock bands - track me down and the first RAILEAN Rum drink is on me.
    8. If it is Saturday, check out Clifton Seaside Diner for live music outside, overlooking Galveston Bay and with an outdoor cabana bar.
    9. For dinner we suggest the Bayview Duck (located on HWY 146 between Bacliff and Kemah) for authentic Fish and Chips and a Scottish Egg.  You must try Alec's signature Purple Parrot cocktail made with local RAILEAN Rum.
    10. Final Suggestion:  Make sure to pick up a copy of the Seabreeze (local magazine) at one of the restaurants, the Dear Steve column is a must read...
